For his first exhibition at Galeri Nev Istanbul, Ahmet Dogu Ipek presents his most recent watercolour drawings as well as a new series of sculptural works.

Ahmet Doğu Ipek continues to investigate the concepts of volume, density, repetition, collision and transformation, adding new forms, found items and colour to his predominantly monochrome visual language.

The term graft, which has multiple meanings such as vaccination, inoculation or transplantation, is used to express the process of joining two plants together to grow as one in botanical terminology. In his new body of work, Ahmet Doğu Ipek references the concept of graft, creating hybrid forms from organic materials that intertwine. Grafting may also be applied as a metaphor to reflect on the injection of a creative idea to the work in the context of the exhibition. The found objects, conceived forms and textures do not segregate as separate forms but interweave without losing their essence. Graft creates a new and striking visual language, reflecting on the artist’s processes of developing multi-layered relationships with the city and nature, and perpetually challenging the limits of the material.

* The artist would like to thank; Hakan Demirel, Nevzat Sayın, Murat Fesih Avcıbaşı, Selen Ansen, Aslıhan Demirtaş, Nilüfer Şaşmazer and Galeri Nev Istanbul team for their contributions.
